The history of the hotel
Run in the fifth generation we live by the value: Every guest is king! Tradition reaching as far back as 1868.
What started as a small hospitable carriage driver’s inn is to this day owned by family Möhrle as familiar feel-good hotel.
How warmly and homelike you are welcomed and cared for in the Black Forest idyll by the hills of the Tonbach valley can’t be described – only experienced.
The “Tanne” was founded 1868 as a carriage driver’s inn. The family history in the “Tanne” is the story of family Möhrle. The picture shows the inn “Tanne” in 1910.
- Johannes Möhrle (1824-1895), miner and hotelier since 1868
- Johannes Möhrle (1857-1906), hotelier since 1888
- Ernst Möhrle (1890-1974), hotelier since 1911. He learned the baker’s trade first. His Pretzel’s were renowned throughout the entire valley. His wife Marie also shaped the hotel with her temperament. Occasionally someone would feel trodden on their toes by her direct humor. A professor departed early because Mrs. Möhrle took measure for the size of her BubaSpitzel (traditional Swabian dish) on the extent of his masculinity.
- Rudi Möhrle (1966-2002) manages the hotel together with his wife Gisela coming from Hotel Rosengarten. They have 3 children: Bärbel, Christl and Jörg.
- Jörg Möhrle, hotelier since January 1st, 2003 manages the “Tanne” with his wife Jutta. They have 2 children – Sofie and Katharina.
Jörg enjoyed his three-year long apprenticeship as chef in the famous Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn-Mitteltal.
After accumulating experience in renowned kitchens such as Jörg Müller on Sylt, Alfred Klinik in Colombi in Freiburg, in the hotel Tennerhof in Kitzbühel Austria and in Switzerland in the Relais&Chateau hotel Giardino, he completed his master’s certificate in 1999 in Bavaria. Due to his extraordinary performance he received the popular master’s price with a price money of 3000,- DM awarded to him by the IHK Munich. Furthermore, he finished his studies as state approved master of hotel management at the Bavaria hotel school in Altötting.
1999 he married his Jutta from Austria introducing her charm in the “Tanne”. The wedding was celebrated with a great celebration in the hotel. The second youngest member of the family is Sofie who was born on June 18th, 1999 the youngest member Katharina was born on January 2nd, 2003. Jutta Möhrle graduated from the hotel school Klessheim in Salzburg. Being a tourism manager, she loves taking care of the guest’s wishes and oversees the reception, holiday program for the guests and cares for the wellbeing of the employees. The employees are the greatest treasure for a medium-sized holiday hotel.
A further stay abroad lead the young family Möhrle to California in 2000. For almost 2 years Jörg Möhrle could participate in a management program in Napa-Valley (USA) enabling him to become more familiar with the reception and the restaurant. The beautiful hotel Auberge du Soleil lies on the hills of the wine valley with a stunning view over the vines. He was especially impressed by the service concept and the passion with which the guests were treated there.
In fall 2001 the young family returned to their homeland and the hotel “Tanne” with plenty drive and vigor. On January 1st, 2003 Jörg Möhrle officially took over his father’s business. In the years since the business handover it was constantly renovated and invested in so that family Möhrle now can claim to be hosts in a modern holiday hotel with fully supplied wellness area. The holiday guests appreciate the familiar atmosphere. Guest say about the Tanne: “You feel at home here right away. There is a good spirit throughout the whole house.”
2018 the “Tanne” celebrates its 150th anniversary!
